Specialising in 1930's, 40's and 50's, Kitten's curves have been wowing us in photographs for 7 years, now she on the rise in the Burlesque world.

Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire – 5th November 2008 – Kitten von Mew is a well known vintage pin-up, famous for her 1940's imagery and curvacious, animated looks.  Her artistic and creative background has helped her create incredible costume pieces and fun, inventive Burlesque acts.  With offers coming in of Burlesque work in London and Milan, what has the future got in store for this Coventry born gal?

Sitting in her 1940's themed livingroom with art deco chairs, pin-up memorabilia, Best of British on the coffee table and a plate full of homemade cakes, it looks as though we have time travelled and I am starting to feel quite out of place in my polyester suit as Kitten sits in her original 1940's house dress.  Kitten has loved the classic pin-up look since she was a child.  Dreaming of becoming a curvy dancer from a Fred and Ginger movie, she became obsessed with the perfection and romance that the black and white movies portrayed.  Her love of her Grandfather in Manchester simply fuelled her passion for the 40's as his 1930's house is full of trinkets and treasures (including an original kitchen) from the era's Kitten adores.  One day, Kitten jumped into, what was then, the underground world of Vintage Pin-Up modelling and soon became a well known and well repected face in national and international publications.  Having spent so many years as a model, there was one other thing that Kitten wanted to try her hand at.  She entered into the Burlesque world at Peekaboo Burlesque in Sheffield, 2006.  Petrified and adorning a Bride of Frankenstein wig, she entered onto the stage and suddenly all fear was gone!  Kitten von Mew continues to wow audiences from Sheffield to London.  Performing in front of a VIP audience at the CTBF Charity Event at Cafe Royal and being the face of Blenheim Palace's 40's events springboarded Kitten to new heights.

I asked her why Vintage Pin-Up was so important to her - "Pin-Up's and the portrayal of beautiful women have been around for hundreds of years.  WWII pin-ups hold a special place in my heart as they were used for such a good reason and not just to sell something.  Images of beautiful women were used in the war to alleviate some of the horrors and upset, to give moral and something to fight for.  Soldiers carried around pictures of film stars, loved ones, pin-ups...even playing cards and calendars used Vargas and other artists to produce funny, cheeky and sexy drawings.  The films made during the war were often laced with romance and happy endings, giving hope and an hour or two's escape in a dreadful time.  I feel really honoured to be able to portray such an important era and keep it alive."

Her passion for the era's she portrays is obvious and her quiet, characteristic smile and bubbly sense of humour makes me feel at ease.  After sifting through her photos and a video of one of her performances, it makes me want to get to know her more.  Her poses are iconic, her look and manner like something out of a Hollywood movie and her cakes to die for.  What isn't to like about this curvy British girl?

Kitten von Mew is a Vintage Pin-Up who started out on New Years Ever 2001.  Spotted by a local photographer at a party, Kitten soon proved her love of Pin-Up with iconic poses and her ever growing range of vintage clothing.  Kitten von Mew lives just outside Stratford upon Avon and was born in Coventry.

The curvey calendar girl has yet to see Milan and is looking forward to her visit. She says "I cannot wait to go to Milan.  I have never been, but it is one of my father's favourite places so am very excited as he has great taste.  We both have a love of architecture and the romance of old buildings so I know I will not be disappointed!  I would love to sit outside one of the street cafes and watch the world go buy, I just hope I have time!  I hope to go back to Milan for a holiday so I can really explore.  I would love to go up on the roof of the Duomo."
