PlanMilan Takes you Shopping

Do you know where to go for great home decor, men's wear or perfumes? Personal shopper and guide, Melanie Payge, shares her secrets and favourite shops in Milan.

Busatti is my very favourite home decor store. They claim “a bit of Tuscany in the heart of Milan”. They are located in Brera which is considered the artsy part of town, Via Statuto 21 to be exact.   Everything is plush and suffice, and the ambiental fragrance draws you right into this homey boutique. The first time you enter you want to redecorate your bathroom to look just like the store.  It's a family owned business since 1842 which originally made only hand woven fabrics. The Milan store owner,  Sabrina Vittore, also has a castle in Sillavengo (Novara) where you can try out sleeping between these crisp but magically soft sheets and drying off with cloud like towels. For the Castle go to www.alcastello.it.

Tad – another secret in Brera, originally across the square from the Armani Palace, has taken over the Capeletti show room.  This Concept Store  has one of the most creative designs in Milan for shoppers with Contemporary taste. As you walk in you can already  see and feel the eclectic style. Entering into the rounded door is “Concept Heaven” mixing all emerging designers apparel, fragrance, and footwear  then go up to the mega high Coutour, keep going up to find a relaxing lobby filled with art collections and design. Then take the Elevator underground the “oh so blue and coolcafé. I had my first Tanguray 10 martini there and it was covered in silver, “ so very icy cool” and next to the Bar is a mini spa.  An all day store with very much class. You have to go to the website and get the concept feeling http://www.taditaly.com/index_eng.php

L’Artisan Parfumeur Paris – Olfattorio Bar a Perfumes, this marvellous tiny fragrance shop in Via Bagutta, is so rich in scents that one can even originate ones own perfume.  For example “Timbuktu” references Africa you can feel the safari, the rich soil it makes me feel a bit savage, where as “Tea for Two” is leafy and green with hints of the entire garden gives me feel comfortable and relaxed.  Nicole speaks many languages and will guide you through the fragrance experience, which is so, so, so enhancing!

Drumohr - Yes, the famous Scottish label from 1770 was bought by an Italian knitwear company in Brescia. There are so many wonderful things about this Men’s store  from the colors to the exquisite fabrics.  Both Vittorio and Rune are knowledgeable and experienced so trust them!  Everything is strictly “Made in Italy” or better yet in Brescia although the fabrics may come from elsewhere, for example their Denim comes from Japan, the prewashed is so soft it is like wearing flannel pj’s from L.L.Bean but the refinishing touches are crafted as only the Italians can do.  Another particular is the cashmere they have kept the tradition using a Scottish yarn which is much longer with a tighter twist so you don’t get all of the funny little fuzz balls on your sweaters.
