Donizetti defined it as “comic”, but we might also call it a “romantic comedy”. Indeed it is a comic opera, full of cheer and humour, but with an overridingly sentimental note. Entirely to music by Tchaikovsky , the ballet once again not even a note from the work Eugene Onegin. The pieces are mounted with respect to their expressiveness , thus making the show a perfect example of modern " dance drama " .
